Dan Campbell: The Lions' New Head Coach

Rising from the Field

Daniel Allen Campbell, born April 13, 1976, is an American football coach and former tight end who has been the head coach for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) since 2021.

A Decade in the Making

Campbell's journey to the head coaching position spans over two decades, starting with his playing career. As a tight end, he spent 11 seasons in the NFL, playing for seven different teams, including the Detroit Lions. After retiring as a player, Campbell transitioned to coaching, holding various positions with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints.

Eyes on the Future

In 2021, Campbell was named the head coach of the Detroit Lions, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game. The Lions, a team that had struggled in recent years, were looking for a leader to turn their fortunes around.

Contract Extentions

In recognition of Campbell's contributions and the team's progress under his guidance, both general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell agreed to contract extensions that will keep them with the Lions through the 2025 season.
